Riverine Carbon and the Sedimentary Record on the Continental Shelves

چکیده
The field work is carried out in the northern Adriatic margin in the framework of the EuroSTRAFORM program. Our approach is to use the signature of the organic matter in order to: 1) trace the initial distribution of flood sediments on the shelf (spatial variability); 2) trace the physical and biological reworking of the flood layer (temporal variability); 3) discriminate between Po and Apennine riverine inputs; 4) identify flood layers in the stratigraphic records; 5) estimate the particulate organic carbon discharged during the 2000 flood event; 6) evaluate the overall organic carbon accumulation on the Adriatic continental shelf at monthly and 100-year time scales; 7) provide the overall partition between terrestrial and marine origin of the organic matter, based on a refined assessment of the end-member values of δC.

A Geochemical Approach to the Palaeo Coastline Reconstruction in southern Khuzestan Plain
Several studies had been tried to illustrate the paleo coastlines of the Persian Gulf during the Holocene. A review of those researches reflects the fact that all of them have stablished their facts based on the sedimentary environment interpretations with no quantitative evidence. Generally, the study area is a changing environment which is a combination of riverine, continental, coastal and e...

A first objective is to investigate the fabric (pattern) of seabed stratification on continental margins at small time and space scales (1 cm-50 cm depth into the seabed; 1 hr-3 yrs sedimentary record). To this end, we are testing the hypothesis that on muddy shelves such as the northern California shelf, Holocene event stratigraphy consists of the deposits of high-concentration storm regimes a...

Low-latitude continental shelves, mixed siliciclastic–carbonate sedimentary systems, provide an understanding of sedimentary environments driven by paleoclimatological processes. The Bonaparte Gulf, northwestern Australian continental shelf, is among the widest in the world, ranging to 500 km, with shallow carbonate terraces and platforms that were exposed during periods of lower sea level. The...
متن کاملCarbon storage on exposed continental shelves during the glacial-interglacial transition
[1] We present analyses of new and previously published estimates of total (vegetation plus soil) carbon storage on exposed continental shelves during the LGM. Carbon stock estimates from environmental reconstructions vary from 113 to 202 Pg C. Estimates from vegetation models range from 112 to 323 Pg C. After standardization of exposed shelf area by a topographic model the range of best estima...
